MARY FARBROTHER is an accomplished cinematographer working across fiction and documentary features, shorts, and commercials. Her films have been Grierson-nominated and won Best Cinematography awards at festivals including Berlin, Atlanta and Raindance. Her recent features include ENO (d. Gary Hustwit) and 7 KEYS (d. Joy Wilkinson), both premiering at international festivals in 2024, and THE TAPE (d. Martha Tilston, 2021). She also shot Film 4’s critically-acclaimed DREAMS OF A LIFE (d. Carol Morley, 2011). Her shorts span narrative, factual, dance and art, winning numerous prizes. An NFTS graduate and member of Illuminatrix collective for female DoPs, Mary began her career shooting B cam Bolex for music videos before shooting commercials on 35mm. She now shoots on film or digital, with an intuitive visual flare that is creative, playful and attuned to the director’s vision.
